al-Ahli Club ( Arabic الأهلي الإماراتي) is a football club from Dubai , United Arab Emirates . The club, founded in 1970, plays in the country's highest league, the UAE Arabian Gulf League .
al-Ahli won the national championship for the first time in 1975 and repeated this success the following year. After a third league title in 1980, it took 26 years before the fourth triumph in the league could be achieved in the 2005/06 season. Under the German coach Winfried Schäfer , they defeated their rivals al-Wahda from Abu Dhabi 4-1 in the playoff final .
In addition to the successes in the national championship, al-Ahli was able to achieve a total of 7 successes in the national cup competition, including the double in 1975 .
