Mohammad Ali Karimi Pashaki (born November 8, 1978 in Tehran ) is a former Iranian soccer player and today's soccer coach .

Career

societies

Karimi began his professional career in the 1998/99 season with Persepolis Tehran after Ali Parvin , the team's coach at the time, became aware of him at an indoor tournament. For a transfer fee of the equivalent of 15,000 US dollars, Parvin signed the young Karimi from the then second division club Fath Tehran . After just a few games, it became a crowd favorite. He was Iranian champion in two consecutive seasons (1998/99 and 1999/2000) with the Iranian top club Persepolis Tehran . In the 1999/2000 season he also won the Iranian Cup with his club . He scored 13 goals in 68 league games for Persepolis Tehran.

For the 2001/02 season Karimi moved to Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates . There, too, he became a crowd favorite in a very short time due to his goals, assists and spectacular dribbles. In the 2003/04 season he won the Cup with Al-Ahli. After a total of four years, 85 games and 49 goals and being voted As Asia’s Footballer of the Year , Karimi left the UAE for the 2005/06 season and joined Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga . Karimi started very strongly with his new club and knew how to convince most of the critics. In his first season he was both German champion and cup winner with the German record champions FC Bayern Munich .

Due to an ankle injury in the spring of 2006 and a disappointing performance with the Iranian selection at the 2006 World Cup , he could not find his old form and repeat his strong performances at the beginning of his engagement. For the German record champions, Karimi scored four goals in 42 competitive games and gave four assists.

In July 2007 he moved to Qatar SC , which he left again at the end of the season after 27 games and 5 goals. 2008/09 and 2009/10 initially planned for Al-Sailiya , but he decided to return to his favorite club, the Iranian record champions Persepolis Tehran. On July 1, 2009, Karimi moved to Steel Azin FC and scored 14 goals in 28 games in his first season. On August 15, 2010 he was dismissed from his club after he had drunk water during public training and thus “did not respect the rules of the holy month of Ramadan”.

Felix Magath signed Karimi on January 31, 2011 shortly before the end of the transfer period for FC Schalke 04 and provided him with a contract until the end of the season. Karimi, who had been without match practice for several months, was number 10 with the Royal Blues and only made a brief appearance when he came on as a substitute in the Champions League match at Inter Milan on April 5 . He also only played once in the Bundesliga, on April 23, 2011 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern .

For the 2011/12 season, Karimi returned to Iran and again joined the capital city club Persepolis Tehran. After strong performances in the league as well as in the AFC Champions League , Karimi was nominated for the election of Asia Footballer of the Year 2012 and ultimately took second place. After the end of the 2013/14 season, when he was still active for one season with the first division club Tractor Sazi Tabriz , he ended his active football career.

Karimi was one of six players wearing green armbands in the World Cup qualifier after the Iranian presidential election in 2009 against South Korea in Seoul. In Iran this was seen as partisanship for the opposition.
