A'ala Hubail (علاء حبيل, DMG ʿAlāʾ Ḥubail ; Born June 25, 1982 in Sitra ) is a Bahraini former football player .

He played 2002-2004 together with his brother Mohamed Hubail for the Bahraini club Al-Ahli and the Bahraini national team . In 2004 the Hubails moved to Al-Gharafa ( Qatar ). Since winning the Golden Shoe at the 2004 Asian Cup (together with Ali Karimi ), he has been considered one of the best strikers in Asia. In the election for Asia's Footballer of the Year , he finished second behind Ali Karimi. With Bahrain, he advanced to the last play-off round of the 2006 World Cup in Germany , in which the team were eliminated 1-1 and 0-1 against Trinidad and Tobago .

Life

During the 2011/2012 Bahrain protests , Hubail helped with demonstrations as a paramedic. Both he and his brother Mohamed were arrested in April 2011. Hubail was believed to have been tortured.
