Youssef Wasef "Dodo" Mohamad ( Arabic يوسف واصف محمد) (Born July 1, 1980 in Beirut , Lebanon ) is a former Lebanese soccer player .

Career

society

Mohamad started playing football in his home country at Safa SC Beirut , with whom he was a cup finalist in 2000. In 2002, the central defender moved to league rivals Olympic Beirut . With this club he became 2003 Lebanese champions and cup winners. At the beginning of the 2004/05 season , Mohamad moved to SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga on the recommendation of his compatriot Roda Antar . He played 29 games for the Breisgauer, but rose with them at the end of the season, but relegated to the bottom of the table in the second division . As 1. FC Köln announced on its homepage on July 18, 2007, Mohamad had signed a contract from the 2007/08 season after tough negotiations with the Rhinelanders. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

The kicker sports magazine ranked Mohamad in December 2007 behind Nikolče Noveski from Mainz as the second best central defender in the 2nd Bundesliga. With four goals in the first half of the 2007/08 season, he was also the most dangerous defender. Since the second half of the 2009/2010 season, Youssef Mohamad was the captain of 1. FC Cologne . He handed over the office to Lukas Podolski on January 5, 2011 .

On the first match day of the 2010/2011 season he was expelled from the field in the second minute of the game due to an emergency brake in the 1: 3 home defeat of 1. FC Köln against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and was the player with the fastest expulsion at that time ( Red card ) in the Bundesliga history . The DFB sports court then banned him for three league games. Marcel Titsch-Rivero beat this record in the same season .

On August 20, 2011, 1. FC Köln announced that Mohamad would move to Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates . The FC responded to the wish of Mohamad, who wanted to live closer to his family in Lebanon . As a replacement for Mohamad in central defense, the Portuguese Henrique Sereno was loaned by FC Porto for a year . For the 2016/17 season Mohamad moved to the Lebanese club Nejmeh Club and ended his career at the end of the season.

National team

Mohamad completed 39 games for the Lebanese selection and took part in the 2000 Asian Cup in his own country. He was also the captain of his national selection from November 2004 to August 2005. After severe criticism of his association ( Fédération Libanaise de Football Association ) and of his national coach Adnan Meckdache , he was suspended from the Lebanese association. He is only allowed to return if he apologizes to the association and the coach for his critical stance, which Mohamad refused because he saw himself in the right.

However, at the end of 2012 he was appointed to the international matches against Australia , Yemen , Qatar and Iran by the German coach Theo Bücker .
