Henrique Sereno Fonseca (born May 18, 1985 in Elvas ) is a former Portuguese football player . His preferred position is central defense.

Career

society

Sereno started his career with O Elvas . For the 2005/06 season he moved to the SuperLiga to Vitória Guimarães and was loaned from there to FC Famalicão for the second half of the season. With Vitória Guimarães, who had meanwhile been relegated to the Liga de Honra , he managed direct resurgence and after the 2007/08 season reached third place in the table to participate in the Champions League qualification. There they failed at FC Basel and were eliminated from the UEFA Cup in the first round against FC Portsmouth . In the 2008/09 season, Sereno came only six league appearances due to injuries. In January 2010 he moved to Real Valladolid , but returned to Portugal after just six months. With FC Porto he was Portuguese champion, Portuguese cup winner and Europa League winner in the 2010/11 season .

In August 2011, 1. FC Köln loaned him out. Sereno signed a loan contract for at least one season and was number 17 on his shirt. He made his Bundesliga debut on the 4th matchday of the 2011/12 season as part of the 4: 3 away win at Hamburger SV in Cologne. After FC's relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga , Sereno initially returned to his home club. However, he was loaned to Real Valladolid for the 2012/13 season.

In the summer of 2013 he moved to Turkey to Kayserispor and was relegated after his first year with the club. In the following season 2014/15 he was champion of the second division with Kayserispor and returned to the Süper Lig .

Sereno moved to the German Bundesliga for 1. FSV Mainz 05 for the 2015/16 season , for which he did not play a competitive game. His contract was terminated on June 15, 2016.

There followed phases of non-membership and brief engagements in India and Spain before he ended his active career in 2019.

National team

After he had completed an international match for the Portuguese U21 team in 2007, Sereno made his debut on June 10, 2013 under coach Paulo Bento in a friendly against Croatia in the senior national team.

Functionary activity

Sereno has been president of Portuguese second division UD Vilafranquense since January 2020 .
