Enrique "Quique" Sánchez Flores (born February 2, 1965 in Madrid ) is a Spanish soccer coach and former soccer player . He is the nephew of the late Spanish dancer and actress Lola Flores .

Career

In the 1980s, Sánchez Flores played as a defender at FC Valencia . In 1994 he moved to Real Madrid , fulfilling a childhood dream. After two seasons in Madrid, he moved to Real Zaragoza for a short time before taking over the Real Madrid youth team as a supervisor.

Before the 2004/05 season he was hired by the newly promoted Getafe FC and, as a newcomer to the coaching business with the club, occupied an impressive 13th place in the table. After this year at Getafe he was from Valencia to succeed Claudio Ranieri committed. In his first season ( 2005/06 ) he reached 3rd place in the championship with Valencia and qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2006/07 . On October 29, 2007 he was fired from Valencia CF after a series of poor results. In May 2008 he signed a two-year contract with Benfica Lisbon. However, this was already dissolved in June 2009 by mutual agreement.

At the end of October 2009, Sánchez Flores was introduced as the new coach at the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid , who was in the table cellar. He signed a one-year contract. At the end of the same season, he celebrated his greatest coaching success by winning the 2010 UEFA Europa League . Following the 2010/11 season , Atlético announced the separation from Flores. At the beginning of November 2011, Sánchez Flores took over the coaching position at the Al-Ahli Dubai club in the United Arab Emirates . After two years he left the country, but took over the al-Ain association in September 2013 , which separated from him in March 2014.

After his time in the Emirates, Sánchez Flores returned to Spain and took over the coaching position at the first division club Getafe on January 5, 2015 after the previous coach Cosmin Contra had been transferred to China . There, however, he resigned on February 26, 2015 for personal reasons. In the 2015/16 season he coached the English newly promoted and first division club Watford FC .

For the following season he moved back to Spain to Espanyol Barcelona , where he signed his former player José Antonio Reyes as a newcomer.

At the beginning of September 2019, Sánchez Flores returned to replace Javi Gracia at Watford FC, which had been relegated to a relegation zone since the beginning of the season. After less than three months he was released again after only one victory in ten league games and the team was in last place with 8 points after the 14th matchday.

Sánchez Flores completed a total of 15 games for the Spanish national team . He made his debut at the age of 22 on September 23, 1987 against Luxemburg (2-0). His last appearance in the national team was on February 20, 1991 against France (1: 3).
