Marcel Ritzmaier (born April 22, 1993 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder .

Career

Ritzmaier began his career at TuS Spielberg in Styria . After three years with SV Lobmingtal and a return to Spielberg , he came to FC Kärnten via FC Judenburg in 2006 , where he drew attention to himself in the youth department.

In 2007 he moved to SK Austria Kärnten , where he was initially active in the youth department before he was transferred to the squad of the second team, where Ritzmaier played for the first time in the 2008/09 season.

In 2009/10 he was accepted into the extended Bundesliga squad by first-team coach Frenkie Schinkels . The left midfielder made his Bundesliga debut on August 2, 2009 in the third round match against SK Rapid Wien , where he came on for Marco Salvatore in the 81st minute when the score was 2-1.

In the winter transition period 2009/10, the talent moved to the Netherlands for PSV Eindhoven , where it was initially active in the second team. Ritzmaier made his first appearances in the PSV first team in the two final group matches of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League . He has officially been part of the professional squad since January 2012.

He was loaned to the Eredivisie newly promoted SC Cambuur on August 8, 2013 from PSV Eindhoven . On October 26, 2013 he scored his first goal in the Eredivisie to make it 3-1 in the game against FC Utrecht . Before the 2014/15 season, Ritzmaier returned to Eindhoven. In the team that celebrated the title in the Eredivisie at the end of the season , he could not prevail.

For the 2015/16 season it was awarded to the NEC Nijmegen and for the 2016/17 season it was awarded to the Go Ahead Eagles Deventer .

For the 2018/19 season he returned to Austria, where he joined the Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC , where he received a contract that ran until June 2019. In mid-April 2019, the contract was extended for another year.

In January 2020 he moved to England for second division club FC Barnsley , where he received a contract that ran until June 2022.

His older brother Christian (* 1991) used to play for Austrian youth national teams.
