Kurt Rettkowski (born January 23, 1949 in Friemersheim ) is a former German football player .

career

As a youth player he reached the final of the Lower Rhine Championship against VfL Benrath with Tura Bergheim , which was lost, but the scouts of the Bundesliga clubs became aware of the "new Beckenbauer" . The MSV Duisburg signed the young talent for the 1967/68 season. In addition to Rettkowski, Rainer Budde , Erwin Kostedde , Bernd Lehmann , Horst Wild , Dietmar Linders , Jürgen Kowalski , Bernd Hoffmann and Hans-Joachim Schellberg also joined the team of coach Gyula Lóránt . Kurt Rettkowski made his first appearance in the Bundesliga at the age of 18 on September 9, 1967 in a game against Hamburger SV , when he was substituted on in the 40th minute. As a libero, his direct opponent was Uwe Seeler . Lorant was replaced by Robert Gebhardt after just one round in Wedau and Rettkowski was part of the extended circle of the regular cast for the two years of the ex-Nuremberg resident. In 1969 and 1970, however, only the twelfth and 15th places came out of the table. Gebhardt was replaced by Rudi Faßnacht for the 1970/71 round and Rettkowski was a regular of the "Zebras" under the new coach for the next three rounds. After 1968 he achieved his best placings with MSV Duisburg in the Bundesliga in 1971 when he achieved seventh place. On May 26, 1973 he played his last Bundesliga game. The MSV lost with 0: 5 goals at Wuppertaler SV and Günter Pröpper distinguished himself as a four-time goalscorer.

After six years at MSV alongside teammates like Bernard Dietz and Detlef Pirsig , Rettkowski first moved to Belgium to St.Truiden in the summer of 1973, then played under coach Leo Beenhakker in Holland at Go Ahead Eagles Deventer and another three years at VVV-Venlo together with Dick Advocaat . At the end of his playing career he returned to Germany and played for a few years in Moers with the North Rhine-Westphalian upper division club RSV Meerbeck and finally ended his career with the then regional division SV Schwafheim. In 1986 he stopped playing football.

Kurt Rettkowski played a total of 131 Bundesliga games and scored seven goals.

After finishing his professional career, he worked in the public order office in Moers from 1979. He also plays tennis.
