Erwin Kostedde (born May 21, 1946 in Münster ) is a former German soccer player .

Club career

The son of an Afro-American GI and a German mother learned to play football in the youth of SC Münster 08 , TuS Saxonia Münster and Preußen Münster . One of his coaches at the time was ex-national player "Fiffi" Gerritzen . Kosteddes Weg led from the A-youth in 1965 directly to the Prussian 1st team. In 1967 Kostedde moved to the Bundesliga for Meidericher SV . Looking back, Kostedde said in 2016 about this phase of life: “I was young, I played like a young god. Everything went to my head. ” From 1972 the striker played for Kickers Offenbach , whose Bundesliga record goal scorer he is to this day. He moved to Hertha BSC in 1975 for 650,000 Deutschmarks and to Borussia Dortmund in 1976 . Further stations were Standard Liège , where he replaced Lothar Emmerich as the top scorer in the Belgian first division with 26 goals in 1971. During this time he was called the “brown bomber”, which he said disliked: “Nobody asked me if I would like " . At Stade Laval he was in 1980, together with Delio Onnis , top scorer in the French top division . From 1980 to 1982 he played for Werder Bremen and finally ended his career at VfL Osnabrück .

The then Werder manager Rudi Assauer said in 1980 about Erwin Kostedde's commitment to Bremen as follows:

"With us Kostedde no longer needs to run, it's enough if he's in the opponent's penalty area and still scores goals with his bottom."

He scored 98 goals in 219 Bundesliga games.

The Offenbacher Kickers fan magazine, founded in November 1994, bears the title Erwin in his honor .

National team

Kostedde played three times in the national team in 1974 and 1975 and was the first dark-skinned German national player. He made his debut on December 22, 1974 in Gżira in the 1-0 victory in the European Championship qualification against Malta . His third and last game he played on October 11, 1975 in a 1-1 draw in the European Championship qualifier against Greece.

Stations as a trainer

He returned to his homeland as a coach. His activities were crowned with no notable successes.

Life after the active time

After the end of his career, Kostedde lost his savings of over one million DM to a dubious investment advisor. In 1990 he was arrested on suspicion of having committed a robbery on an arcade in Coesfeld , but acquitted of this charge after months of pre- trial detention . For his unjustified imprisonment he received 3,000 DM in compensation . The investigation was marked by serious mishaps. During the comparison, one witness was only presented with Kostedde, although the law requires six people. "We thought it was out of the question to find five colored people in the Coesfeld area," said the head of the department in court. At that time there were hundreds of dark-skinned students in Münster.

Today the qualified sports teacher lives in Everswinkel .

Kostedde has been married since the late 1960s and has one son.
