Sylvain Wiltord (born May 10, 1974 in Neuilly-sur-Marne , Département Seine-Saint-Denis ) is a former French football player . His parents were from Martinique .
In the club
The winger started playing in the top French league, Division 1 , at the age of 17 : from 1991 to 1997 he played for Stade Rennes , moving to Girondins Bordeaux in 1997 . There he was named top scorer in France in 1999 and French footballer of the year . In 2000 he went to Arsenal for the club's record sum of £ 13 million . In 2004 he moved to Olympique Lyon. In August 2007, Wiltord then moved back to his youth club Stade Rennes for 1.5 million euros. In January 2009 he joined Olympique Marseille and received a contract there until the end of the season. After this contract had expired, he kept fit for six months at US Créteil , only to sign a half-year contract with second division FC Metz in January 2010 , which would have been extended by another year in the event of promotion. After a year without a contract, Wiltord signed a contract with FC Nantes in July 2011. After its expiry in 2012, he decided to end his professional career.
In the national team
Wiltord made his first international match on February 10, 1999, when France beat England 2-0 in London . Wiltord became a hero when he equalized 1-1 in the last minute of stoppage time in regular time in the final of the European Football Championship 2000 and thus enabled the French win over Italy in extra time . At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he was mainly a substitute in right midfield and was used in all matches and made an active contribution to the runner-up in the World Cup with two assists . In the final against Italy, he was the French’s first penalty taker and was able to convert his shot.

In 2015, Wiltord took part in the French survival reality show Dropped . In this he was retired early. The participants in the show flew to Argentina, where they were killed in a helicopter crash.
