André Lerond (born December 6, 1930 in Le Havre , † April 8, 2018 in Bron ) was a French football player .

Club career

The footed played in its clubs mostly center-half ; although not very tall and rather slim, he was assertive on the ground and in the header game, and also had good ball handling. As a teenager he started in the first post-war years at a club from the Norman Coutances ; at 19 he moved from the English Channel to the Côte d'Azur to AS Cannes-Grasse in the second division . In the summer of 1951 he moved to the first division promoted Olympique Lyon , where he stayed for the next eight years. Lyon relegated to Division 2 again after a year , but returned to the House of Lords in 1954. Of course, titles could not be won with the Gones - the name that is still used today for the Lyon team: two eighth places (1956 and 1958) in the championship and a semifinal participation in the national cup (1956) were Lerond's greatest successes in the Red Whites. But he became a national player during this time (see below ) .

1959 brought him Stade Français in the capital more than a tenth place in the table in: where he stood financially, better than at Olympique, sporty but also not make it past middle seats Division 1 (1962) jumped in the four years of his not out . That this mediocrity was least due to André Lerond is shown by his award as the most consistent player in the league in the 1961/62 season, for which France Football awarded him the Étoile d'or . At the end of the 1962/63 season he ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 32 for family and professional reasons.

National player

Between October 1957 and April 1963, Lerond played a total of 31 senior internationals for the Équipe tricolore . Because the center runner position there was occupied by Robert Jonquet ( Stade Reims ) until 1960 , he mostly played as a left defender , but could also be used as an outside runner . The highlight of these years with the Bleus was the appointment of Sélectionneur Paul Nicolas and coach Albert Batteux to the French squad at the 1958 World Cup . In Sweden he was placed in all six matches and had a large share in France's best placement at a World Cup final round; in the game for 3rd place, which his team won 6-3 against Germany , he was in his favorite position in the center of the defense after Jonquet's serious injury from the semi-finals.

After moving to Stade Français, Lerond was only considered for two internationals in 1959 and 1960; as a result, he missed participation in the first European Championship finals in front of his own audience , which was disappointing for France . It was not until the autumn of 1961 that he was back in the regular cast and then wore the captain's armband in ten matches.

Life after the active time

André Lerond moved from turf to the management of a large French company in the pulp and hygiene industry, where he also made a career. At the end of 2006, on his 76th birthday, he was PDG , that is, CEO of the Paredès-Apura Group (brand name “Prop”). He died at the age of 87 where he lived near Lyon.
