history
The first mention of the place Bron comes from the year 1202. The oldest traces of human settlement, which were discovered in 1967/68 in the municipal cemetery, are dated to the year 61 BC. After centuries of rural character, Bron developed into an industrial city in the 19th century thanks to its proximity to the city of Lyon and the improvement of the infrastructure, for example with the tramway from Lyon that opened in 1881 . In 1866 the place had only 1,041 inhabitants, in 1921 6,397 and in 1931 12,423. Massive growth followed especially in the 1950s and 1960s; the highest population to date of 44,995 was reached in 1975.
