Genay is a commune with 5470 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Métropole de Lyon in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Genay belongs to the arrondissement of Lyon and until 2015 to the canton of Neuville-sur-Saône . The inhabitants are called Ganathain .

geography

Genay is located in the north of the Métropole de Lyon on the border with the Ain department . The Saône limits the municipality to the east. Genay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Massieux in the north, Civrieux in the northeast and east, Montanay in the southeast, Neuville-sur-Saône in the south and Saint-Germain-au-Mont-d'Or in the west.

The A 46 autoroute runs through the municipality .

history

Before the French Revolution , Genay was the capital of the Franc-Lyonnais province .
