Sathonay-Village is a commune with 2,360 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Métropole de Lyon in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Administratively it belongs to the Arrondissement of Lyon and was part of the canton of Rillieux-la-Pape until 2015 . The inhabitants are called Sathonards .

Sathonay-Village is located about seven kilometers north-northeast of the city center of Lyon . Sathonay-Village is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cailloux-sur-Fontaines in the north and north-west, Rillieux-la-Pape in the east and south-east, Sathonay-Camp in the south and south-west, Fontaines-sur-Saône in the south-west and Fontaines-Saint-Martin in the West.

history

In 1908 the municipality of Sathonay was divided into the two independent municipalities Sathonay-Village and Sathonay-Camp. The military area had previously been established in 1858, with military use already taking place here at the beginning of the 1850s.
