Thurins is located about twelve kilometers west-southwest of Lyon on the Garon River . Thurins is surrounded by Yzeron in the north and north-west, Messimy in the north-east, Soucieu-en-Jarrest in the east and south-east, Rontalon in the south and Saint-Martin-en-Haut in the west and south-west.

The commune belongs to the Coteaux du Lyonnais wine-growing region .
