Mornant is a French commune with 5,938 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Administratively, the municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Lyon and is the main town ( bureau centralisateur ) of the canton of Mornant .

Mornant is located about 24 kilometers southwest of Lyon at the southern foot of the Monts du Lyonnais of the Massif Central . The neighboring municipalities of Mornant are Saint-Laurent-d'Agny in the north, Beauvallon in the east and south-east, Chabanière in the south and west and Chaussan in the north-west.

Mornant is located in the Coteaux du Lyonnais wine region .
