Communay is a French municipality with 4197 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lyon and the canton of Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon . The inhabitants are called Communaysard (e) s .
geography
Communay is about twenty kilometers south of Lyon . Communay is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Sérézin-du-Rhône in the north and northwest, Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon in the north and northeast, Simandres in the east, Chuzelles in the southeast, Seyssuel in the south and southeast, Chasse-sur-Rhône in the south and Southwest and Ternay in the west.
The Autoroute A46 and Route nationale 7 run through the municipality along the eastern municipal border.
history
Communay appears in the documents in 910 as Cominiaco . Before 1967 Communay was part of the Isère department.
