Fontaines-Saint-Martin is a French municipality with 3052 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Métropole de Lyon in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Fontaines-Saint-Martin belongs to the arrondissement of Lyon and until 2015 to the canton of Neuville-sur-Saône . The inhabitants are called Saint-Martinois .

geography

Fontaines-Saint-Martin is 17 kilometers north of downtown Lyon , near the eastern bank of the Saône . The Ruisseau des Échets stream limits the municipality to the north. Fontaines-Saint-Martin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fleurieu-sur-Saône in the north, Cailloux-sur-Fontaines in the east and northeast, Sathonay-Village in the southeast, Fontaines-sur-Saône in the south and Rochetaillée-sur-Saône in the west.

history

From 1245 to 1850 the name of the village was still Saint-Martin de Fontaines . The place is said to have been founded by St. Martin of Tours around 377.
