Grézieu-la-Varenne is a French municipality with 5734 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lyon and the Canton of Brignais . The inhabitants are called Grézirot (te) s .
geography
Grézieu-la-Varenne is about fourteen kilometers west-southwest of Lyon on the Yzeron , which borders the municipality in the south. Grézieu-la-Varenne is surrounded by Sainte-Consorce in the north, Saint-Genis-les-Ollières in the north-east, Craponne in the east, Brindas in the south, Vaugneray in the west and south-west and Pollionnay in the north-west.
history
In 913 a church was built for William I of Aquitaine , Count of Lyon. Parts of the church building existed until 1867.
