Charbonnières-les-Bains is a commune with 5067 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) north-west of Lyon in the Métropole de Lyon in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
The name affix -les-Bains goes back to the thermal baths in Charbonnières, which have since been closed. Together with the neighboring community of La Tour-de-Salvagny , however, the casino is still operated, which is partly responsible for the good economic situation of the community. A town partnership with the Bavarian spa town of Bad Abbach has existed since 1978 .
