Administratively, Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise belongs to the Arrondissement of Lyon and is part of the canton of Vaugneray (until 2015: canton of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise ). The inhabitants are called Pelauds .

Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise is located about 32 km west-southwest of Lyon in the Monts du Lyonnais am Coise . Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pomeys in the west and north, La Chapelle-sur-Coise in the east and north-east, Coise in the south and south-east and Saint-Denis-sur-Coise in the south and south-west.
history
Until the French Revolution , the place was only called Saint-Symphorien-le-Château , hereinafter simply Chausse-Armée . Since the castle had meanwhile been razed, the name was changed to Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise .
