geography
Limitation
The Monts du Lyonnais are often confused with the Monts de Tarare , the dominant mountain of which is Mont Boussuivre with a height of 1004 m , on which the Matagrin tower stands above the village of Violay . The Monts de Lyonnais and Tarare are two geographical units that are separated by the valley of the Brévenne but are referred to as the Montagne du Matin .
The landscape lies in two departments ( Loire and Rhône ) west of the Métropole de Lyon and dominates the valley of the Bévenne and the plain of Forez to the west and the river valleys of the Gier and the Rhone to the east . The foothills of the Monts du Lyonnais form a natural border to the two major settlement centers of the Rhône-Alpes with Lyon in the northeast and Saint-Étienne in the southwest.
From the peaks of the Monts du Lyonnais and on the mountain ranges from Saint-Christo-en-Jarez to Sainte-Catherine there is a panoramic view of the Alpine chain.
