Chazelles-sur-Lyon is a French municipality with 5357 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montbrison and the canton of Feurs . The inhabitants are called Chazellois (es) .
geography
Chazelles-sur-Lyon is on the Forez plain . The Coise , a tributary of the Loire , forms the southeastern municipal boundary. Chazelles-sur-Lyon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Viricelles in the north, Grézieu-le-Marché in the northeast, Pomeys and Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise in the east, Chevrières in the southeast, Saint-Médard-en-Forez in the south, Saint- Galmier in the southwest, Bellegarde-en-Forez in the west and Maringes in the northwest.
history
The legendary foundation goes back to Count Guigues II of Forez and Lyonnais (also Guigues II. D'Albon ), who is said to have given the community the name Chazelles-sur-Lyon in 1148.
