geography
Poncins is located in the historic province of Forez on the Lignon du Forez River , which is where its tributary Vizezy flows. Poncins is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sainte-Foy-Saint-Sulpice in the north and north-west, Cleppé in the north and east, Feurs in the east, Chambéon in the south, Mornand-en-Forez in the south-west, Montverdun in the west and south-west and Saint-Étienne- le-Molard to the west.
