Chazelles-sur-Lavieu is located about 32 kilometers west-northwest of Saint-Étienne in the Forez . Chazelles-sur-Lavieu is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Verrières-en-Forez in the north, Lézigneux in the northeast, Lavieu in the east, Margerie-Chantagret in the southeast, Saint-Jean-Soleymieux in the south and Gumières in the south and west.
