Boën-sur-Lignon is a French municipality with 3309 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Administratively it belongs to the arrondissement of Montbrison and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Boën-sur-Lignon . The inhabitants are called Boënnais .
The municipality, which was previously only called Boën , was renamed Boën-sur-Lignon on August 4, 2012 (information according to INSEE).
geography
Boën-sur-Lignon is located in the Forez plain in the Massif Central and is also part of the Côtes du Forez wine-growing region . The Lignon du Forez flows through the municipality . Boën-sur-Lignon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Sixte in the north and north-west, Arthun in the north-east, Sainte-Agathe-la-Bouteresse in the east, Trelins in the south and Leigneux in the west and south-west.
The former route nationale 89 (today's Départementstrasse 1089) runs through the municipality .
