Sauvain is a French municipality with 380 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Montbrison and the canton of Boën-sur-Lignon .
geography
The municipality is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Montbrison , on the eastern flank of the Monts du Forez mountain range . The Pierre-sur-Haute summit (1631 m), the highest point in the department, is located in the municipality . The Pierre-sur-Haute military radio station is located here .
The neighboring municipalities of Sauvain are:
- Chalmazel in the northwest and north,
- Saint-Georges-en-Couzan in the northeast,
- Saint-Bonnet-en-Courreau to the southeast and south, as well
- Job in the southwest.
Job already belongs to the neighboring Puy-de-Dôme department of the Auvergne region .
The municipality's capital is located in the far east of the municipality. Many small streams arise on the heights of the Monts du Forez , all of which are collected by the Lignon du Forez river, which runs further north, and drain over the Loire .
