The Communauté d'agglomération Loire Forez is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération in the Loire department . It was founded on September 29, 2016 and comprises 87 parishes (as of January 1, 2019). The administrative headquarters are in the city of Montbrison .

Historical development

The community association was created with effect from January 1, 2017 through the merger of the predecessor organizations

• Communauté d'agglomération Loire Forez (before 2017) ,
• Communauté de communes du Pays d'Astrée ,
• Communauté de communes des Montagnes du Haut Forez and
• Communauté de communes du Pays de Saint-Bonnet-le-Château , leaving four communes to other associations.

With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Saint-Julien-la-Vêtre and Saint-Thurin became part of the Commune nouvelle Vêtre-sur-Anzon . This reduced the number of member communities to 87.
