Saint-Jean-Soleymieux is a French municipality with 860 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Montbrison (until 2015: canton of Saint-Jean-Soleymieux ). The inhabitants are called Saint-Joinards .

Saint-Jean-Soleymieux is located about 28 kilometers west-northwest of Saint-Étienne in the Forez on the Mare River . Saint-Jean-Soleymieux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Gumières in the north and north-west, Chazelles-sur-Lavieu in the north and north-east, Margerie-Chantagret in the north-east, Soleymieux in the east, Chenereilles in the south-east, Marols in the south, La Chapelle-en-Lafaye and La Chaulme in the southwest and Saint-Clément-de-Valorgue in the west.
