The Mare is a river in France that runs in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises on the edge of the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park , in the municipality of Saint-Clément-de-Valorgue and initially drains in a north-westerly direction. Then it takes a hook to the southeast and flows through the landscape of the Monts du Forez . At Saint-Marcellin-en-Forez it reaches the Loire Valley, now turns north and after 47 kilometers flows into the Loire as a left tributary below Boisset-lès-Montrond . On its way, the Mare crosses the Loire department and also briefly touches the Puy-de-Dôme department .
