Saint-Marcellin-en-Forez is a French municipality with 4848 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montbrison and the canton of Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert .
geography
Saint-Marcellin-en-Forez lies at the foot of the Forez Mountains in the Massif Central and is crossed by the Canal du Forez . The Malbief also flows through the municipality . Saint-Marcellin-en-Forez is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sury-le-Comtal in the north, Bonson in the northeast, Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert in the east, Chambles in the southeast, Périgneux in the south, Chenereilles in the southwest and Boisset-Saint- Priest in the west and northwest.
history
The place has been traceable since 984. However, in 1884 a hoard with around 500 coins from the 4th century was unearthed, so that an even earlier settlement is likely. The place was first mentioned with his name in 1286. In any case, the church was built before 1225.
