Chalain-le-Comtal is a French village with 705 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montbrison and the canton of Montbrison (until 2015: canton of Saint-Jean-Soleymieux ). The inhabitants are called Chalainois .
geography
Chalain-le-Comtal is located about 28 kilometers northwest of Saint-Étienne . The Loire limits the municipality to the east. Chalain-le-Comtal is surrounded by the neighboring communities Magneux-Haute-Rive in the north, Marclopt in the north-east, Montrond-les-Bains in the east, Boisset-lès-Montrond in the south-east, Grézieux-le-Fromental in the south, Savigneux in the south-west as well Mornand-en-Forez to the west and north-west.
The A72 autoroute runs through the municipality .
