Margerie-Chantagret is about nine kilometers south of Montbrison and about 26 west-northwest of Saint-Étienne in the Forez . Margerie-Chantagret is surrounded by the neighboring communities Lavieu and Lézigneux in the north, Saint-Georges-Haute-Ville in the east, Soleymieux in the south, Saint-Jean-Soleymieux in the west and south-west and Chazelles-sur-Lavieu in the north-west.
