Champdieu is a French commune with a population of 1,919 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Loire department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Montbrison and the canton of Boën-sur-Lignon (until 2015: canton of Montbrison ).

geography

Champdieu is located about 35 kilometers northwest of Saint-Étienne and 62 kilometers west-southwest of Lyon on the Forez . The Canal du Forez crosses the municipality. Champdieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pralong in the north and northwest, Chalain-d'Uzore in the north and northeast, Saint-Paul-d'Uzore in the east and northeast, Savigneux in the east and southeast, Montbrison in the south, Essertines-en-Châtelneuf in the Southwest and Châtelneuf in the west.
