The Mercedes-Benz Lo 2000 is a light commercial vehicle from Daimler-Benz AG . L means that it is a truck, o stands for omnibus, 2000 is the payload in kg. The Lo 2000 was therefore available with both a truck body and a bus body. From 1932 to 1940, 12,253 Lo 2000s were built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau , around 92% of them with the OM 59 diesel engine . The other vehicles are powered by the M 60 gasoline engine.
background
Up until the early 1930s, the diesel engine was insignificant as a commercial vehicle drive in Germany. This changed with the Lo 2000, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1932: The Lo 2000 is the first truck with a diesel engine to be produced in any significant number. A gasoline engine was also offered, but thanks to the cheaper fuel and lower specific fuel consumption, the diesel engine prevailed.
technology
The Lo 2000 is a two-axle vehicle that is built on a ladder frame . It has a front and rear rigid axle with longitudinally arranged leaf springs , steel disc wheels and tires measuring 6.5–20 or 6–20. The rear axle has double tires. The Ate-Lockheed brake is an inner band brake that acts on all wheels. It is steered with a screw steering , the Lo 2000 is only available as a left-hand drive. The chassis weighs 1900 kg and has a load capacity of 2700 kg. In the truck model, a platform with a surface area of 3500 mm × 2000 mm is built onto the chassis.
The M 60 gasoline engine and the OM 59 diesel engine were offered. Both engines deliver 40 kW (55 hp) at 2000 min -1 and have 3.8 liter displacement. The power is transmitted from the engine via a single-disk dry clutch to an unsynchronized four-speed pusher gear and from there via a cardan shaft to the rear wheels.
