Alexandra Pohlmeier

Alexandra Pohlmeier (born May 20, 1960 in Munich ) is a German filmmaker and producer .

Life

Alexandra Pohlmeier grew up as the daughter of the psychiatrist and psychotherapist Hermann Pohlmeier and the lawyer Michaela Ecker in Munich. After graduating from high school in Göttingen, she completed her studies at the University of Television and Film in Munich in 1986 with the documentary film in between . Since then she has been working as a freelance writer, director and producer, mainly for documentary films; 1986–1998 as managing director of stromboli-film, since 1998 as Alexandra Pohlmeier film production.

As part of her documentary film work, she has led a. a. for the Federal Foundation processing life history interviews with contemporary witnesses and prepares them for historical political education. In the permanent exhibition of the Berlin Wall Memorial, which opened in 2014 , she made the films for the “Archive of Remembrance”.

Psychiatry has been her second thematic focus since the publication of her documentary film Heaven and More - On the Trail of Dorothea Buck . For the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf she created several educational films on this topic and carried out numerous training courses nationwide.

She works regularly for and with memorials and foundations.

From 2007 to 2015 she was a member of the round table for the establishment of the memorial and information site for the victims of the National Socialist “euthanasia” murders , which was inaugurated in 2014 in Berlin.

Alexandra Pohlmeier has been on the advisory board of the Dorothea Buck Foundation since 2011 .

As one of the first signatories she supports the demand of Pro Quote Regie for the appropriate distribution of jobs to women in the media industry.

She is a member of the documentary film working group .

In addition to her documentary film work, she makes experimental short films.
