Psychosis seminar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Psychosis seminars are discussion forums and expert groups whose core idea is an equal understanding of psychoses - ultimately with the aim of developing a better, holistic understanding of psychoses and thus changing the work of psychiatry. Experts in the sense of psychosis seminars are people who have experienced psychosis themselves, those who have experienced psychosis; their relatives, who have usually experienced a psychosis at close range; as well as professionals who work professionally in psychiatry with people with psychoses. In psychosis seminars, these different perspectives and experiences can be discussed and stand side by side on an equal footing. This exchange of experiences, known as “trialogue”, should be characterized by mutual respect . The participants get new insights into the experience of others and thus learn more about the phenomenon of psychosis.

There are now over 100 such seminars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You are organizationally autonomous, so that there is a great variety in terms of the type of moderation , the internal rules, the number of participants, composition, or the location of the seminar. The basic rule, however, is that the seminars take place in a neutral location, usually an adult education center or college , and not, for example, in a clinic , which is subject to different roles.

Outwardly, psychosis seminars want to convey a human image of psychoses and the mentally ill and also strengthen dialogue and a deeper understanding of these in public .

history

The first model for today's psychosis seminars was created in the summer of 1989 at the University Clinic Hamburg, where Dorothea Buck approached the psychologist Thomas Bock with the desire to be able to present her view of those who have experienced psychosis to specialists so that they can use this knowledge to change their work and can improve. This model was then adopted in many cities, adapted to local conditions.
