Seán Ardagh

Seán Ardagh (born November 25, 1947 - May 17, 2016 ) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who was a member of the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) between 1997 and 2011 .

Life

Ardagh, who worked as a chartered accountant, began his political career in local politics and was a candidate of the Fianna Fáil at the county elections on 27 June 1991 in the constituency Terenure Council member of the County South Dublin ( South Dublin County Council selected) and belonged to this until June 10, 1999. He was first elected to a member ( Teachta Dála ) of Dáil Éireann in the elections of June 6, 1997 . After his re-election on May 17, 2002 and May 24, 2007 until his resignation on January 28, 2011, he represented the constituency of Dublin South-Central . Previously, he had decided not to run again for the February 25, 2011 elections . In addition, he was in the municipal elections of 10 June 1999 in the constituency Crumlin Kimmage also a member of the City Council of Dublin ( Dublin City Council selected), where he remained until August of 2003.

During his long career he had deputies on 9 March 2000 to 25 April 2002 Chairman of the Joint Committee of Parliament ( Oireachtas ) for Justice, Defense and Women's Rights ( Joint Committee on Justice, Defense and Women's Rights ). He then headed, among other things, the subcommittee of the Dáil Éireann to investigate the bombings in Dublin and Monaghan , which were committed on May 17, 1974 by the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and resulted in a total of 34 deaths and more than 300 injuries. Most recently, he acted as chairman of the Joint Committee on the Constitution during the 30th legislative period between October 31, 2007 and January 28, 2011 .

Ardagh was married to Maire Ardagh, who was a member of the South Dublin County Council from 1999 to 2009 as a representative of Fianna Fáil . His daughter is the politician Catherine Ardagh , who ran for a seat in the Dáil Éireann for the Fianna Fáil in the elections of February 26, 2016 in the constituency of Dublin South Central , but has been a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) and represents the industry and finance interest group there. She is also the chairman of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary group in the Senate. His son Charlie Ardagh was also active in local politics and was his successor from August 2003 until his defeat in the local elections on June 5, 2009 on the Dublin City Council.
