Bessenay is located about 21 kilometers west of Lyon and belongs to the Coteaux du Lyonnais wine-growing region . Bessenay is surrounded by the neighboring communities Bibost and Savigny in the north, Chevinay in the east, Courzieu in the south, Brussieu in the south-west, Brullioles in the west and south-west and Saint-Julien-sur-Bibost in the west and north-west.
