Gleizé is a French municipality with 7472 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Gleizé belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Gleizé .

geography

Gleizé is located around thirty kilometers north of Lyon , on the western outskirts of Villefranche-sur-Saône . Gleizé is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Arnas in the north and northeast, Villefranche-sur-Saône in the east, Limas in the southeast, Pommiers in the south, Porte des Pierres Dorées with Liergues in the southwest, Lacenas in the west and Denicé in the northwest. The municipal area is drained by the rivers Nizerand , Morgon and Merloux in an easterly direction towards the Saône . Gleizé is located in the Bourgogne wine-growing region with the regional appellations Bourgogne Aligoté , Bourgogne Passetoutgrain and Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire . The Crémant de Bourgogne (sparkling wine) is well known.
