Grandris is a French commune with a population of 1,181 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Tarare .
location
Grandris is located 55 kilometers northwest of Lyon , about 50 kilometers from Roanne and about 35 kilometers west of Villefranche-sur-Saône .
Between the Massif Central and the Beaujolais vineyards , Grandris lies on the upper reaches of the Azergues , which is part of a nature reserve here.
history
The place has been inhabited for a good 2000 years. On July 5, 1876, the construction of a telegraph station was agreed. On April 26, 1900, the phone came to Grandris. On December 15, 1905, at the instigation of Michel Duperray, the electric lighting of the place was decided.
Population development
Today, as there were around 200 years ago, there are a little more than 1,000 "Grandrisiens". The population doubled from 1830, but declined again from around 1890.

There is a public primary school in Grandris, attended by around a hundred children, and a private school attended by 35 children. There is a college (secondary school) four kilometers away in Lamure-sur-Azergues .
Culture
The "Beaujol'Rock Festival" takes place in summer. More than 500 festival-goers come to the free concerts.
The "Association Grandrisienne pour la Réalisation d'Animations et de Fêtes" (AGRAF) has 37 members who perform plays.

In Grandris there is a hospital that is run jointly with the municipality of Létra .
Sports
There are facilities for basketball and tennis , as well as a zip line and a skate park .
Surroundings
The environment is shaped by the coniferous forests. The former garbage dump has been converted into an arboretum .
