Location of the association of municipalities in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region

The Communauté d'agglomération de l'Ouest Rhodanien , abbreviated COR , is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération in the Département Rhône , the administrative seat of which is in the town of Tarare . It is located about 45 km northwest of Lyon on the border with the Loire department and includes the northern foothills of the Monts du Lyonnais with elevations up to about 1000  m as well as part of the Beaujolais Vert . The community association currently consists of 31 communities and has 50,692 inhabitants (as of 2015) on an area of ​​578.57 km ² , its president is Michel Mercier.

Historical development

The Communauté de communes de l'Ouest Rhodania was created on January 1, 2014 from the merger of several older municipal associations. These goods:

• the Communauté de communes du Pays de Tarare, made up of 16 municipalities around Tarare, founded at the turn of the year 1995/6;
• the Communauté de communes du Pays d'Amplepuis Thizy, made up of 12 municipalities around Thizy-les-Bourgs , founded in 1994;
• and the Communauté de communes de la Haute Vallée d'Azergues, made up of eight municipalities around Lamure-sur-Azergues , founded at the end of 1994.

On January 1, 2016, the association of municipalities changed its legal form from Communauté de communes to Communauté d'agglomération after it had exceeded the necessary threshold of 50,000 inhabitants and the requirements for the population of the capital had been reduced.

With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Pontcharra-sur-Turdine , Dareizé , Les Olmes and Saint-Loup became part of the Commune nouvelle Vindry-sur-Turdine . This reduced the number of member churches to 31.

tasks

The competencies required include the development and promotion of economic activities and tourism as well as spatial planning on the basis of a Schéma de Cohérence Territoriale . The community association determines the housing construction policy and operates the sewage disposal, the garbage collection and disposal and the road maintenance . In addition, the association builds and maintains cultural and sports facilities and promotes events in these two areas. The crime prevention falls within its jurisdiction.
