The Communauté d'agglomération Villefranche Beaujolais Saône is a French association of municipalities with legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération in the departments of Ain and Rhône . It extends on the west bank of the Saône in Beaujolais around the city of Villefranche-sur-Saône , which is also the administrative center. Another municipality on the opposite bank of the Saône and from the Ain department, Jassans-Riottier , also belongs to it. The community association currently consists of 18 communities and has 72,896 inhabitants (as of 2015) on an area of 167.66 km 2 , its president is Daniel Faurite.
Historical development
The formation of today's communauté d'agglomération took place in several steps and began in 1962 as district de Villefranche with the city and three other neighboring communities (Arnas, Gleizé and Limas). In the following decades the range of tasks of the district expanded until it was converted into a communauté de communes in 2002 . A few years later, on January 1, 2006, the increased population allowed the transition to the next higher legal form, the Communauté d'agglomération de Villefranche (municipalities highlighted in red in the graphic on composition and merger). The current scope only emerged at the beginning of 2014, when the Communauté d'agglomération merged with the two neighboring associations Communautés de communes Beaujolais Nizerand Morgon (blue) and Communautés de communes Beaujolais Vauxonne (green) and added four more individual communities. It was on this occasion that the name Villefranche Beaujolais Saône was born .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipality of Jarnioux and the Commune nouvelle Porte des Pierres Dorées were merged into the new Commune nouvelle Porte des Pierres Dorées of the same name ( Communauté de communes Beaujolais Pierres Dorées ). This reduced the number of inhabitants and the total area of the association as well as the number of member communities to 18.
tasks
The community association performs a wide range of tasks. The competencies required include the development and promotion of economic activities and tourism as well as spatial planning on the basis of a Schéma de Cohérence Territoriale . He also operates the road maintenance service, public parking lots, emergency services and local public transport. In addition, the association builds and maintains cultural and sports facilities and promotes events in these areas.
