history
The Communauté de communes Dombes Saône Vallée was created on January 1, 2014 from the merger of two neighboring former municipal associations, each of which had existed for a while:
- Communauté de communes Saône Vallée: Association of 11 municipalities around Trévoux on the east bank of the Saône, founded on December 30, 1993.
- Communauté de communes Porte Ouest de la Dombes : Association of 8 communes along the axis Jassans-Riottier - Ars-sur-Formans - Ambérieux-en-Dombes , founded on December 26, 1994.
The municipality of Villeneuve also joined. The small town of Jassans-Riottier, which lies on the left bank of the Saône directly across from Villefranche-sur-Saône , did not take part in the merger, but became a member of the Communauté d'agglomération Villefranche Beaujolais Saône .
tasks
The competencies required include the development and promotion of economic activities and tourism as well as spatial planning on the basis of a Schéma de Cohérence Territoriale . The community association operates the road maintenance, sewage disposal and garbage collection and disposal. Region of art and history
In the winter of 2008, the eleven member communities of the CC Saône Vallée were the first landscape in the Ain department to be awarded the Region of Art and History (French: pays d'art et d'histoire ). At that time, the community association already possessed the competencies affected by such an award, such as the maintenance of architectural and industrial monuments, promotion of cultural activities and operation of the cross-community music school in Trévoux. The historical aspects of the region between Saint-Bernard and Parcieux begin with the Gallo-Roman settlement and the high medieval fortifications of the Lords of Villars on the border between the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of France. Trévoux is of particular importance as the former capital of the Principality of Dombes. Numerous castles and churches from the Middle Ages as well as farmhouses from the time of the Ancien Régime and secular buildings from the 19th century are inscribed as monument historique .
