The Haut-Bugey Agglomération is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération in the Ain department , whose administrative seat is in the city of Oyonnax .

The community association consists of 42 communities and has 57,187 inhabitants (as of 2015) on an area of ​​688.83 km². It is named after the Haut-Bugey landscape . Jean Deguerry, representative in the conseil général Ain for the canton of Nantua, is president of the community association .

Historical development

The association originally emerged as Communauté de communes Haut-Bugey on January 1, 2014 from the merger of four neighboring former municipal associations, each of which had existed for a while:

  • Communauté de communes des Monts Berthiand: Association of 10 municipalities between Ceignes in the south and Samognat in the north with headquarters in Izernore , founded on December 28, 1994. Its member municipality Serrières-sur-Ain did not participate in the merger, but decided on one Belonging to the Communauté de communes des Rives de l'Ain - Pays du Cerdon .
  • Communauté de communes d'Oyonnax: Association of 10 communities around Oyonnax, founded on June 19, 2000.
  • Communauté de communes Lac de Nantua: Association of 11 municipalities around Nantua , founded on December 30, 2002.
  • Communauté de communes Combe du Val-Brénod: Association of 7 villages south of Nantua with headquarters in Vieu-d'Izenave , founded on November 26, 2001.

In 2017, the association changed to the legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération and was renamed to the current name.

The decree of November 23, 2018 stipulated the dissolution of the community association Communauté de communes du Plateau d'Hauteville and the simultaneous transfer of its member communities to the Haut-Bugey agglomeration with effect from January 1, 2019 .
