Bolozon is a small commune with 654 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ain in the Région Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nantua and the canton of Pont-d'Ain .

geography

The municipality is located in the southern Jura , around 20 kilometers east of the city of Bourg-en-Bresse . Neighboring municipalities are Matafelon-Granges in the north, Sonthonnax-la-Montagne in the north-east and east, Leyssard in the south-east, Serrières-sur-Ain in the south, Hautecourt-Romanèche in the south-west, Cize in the west and Corveissiat in the north-west. Bolozon is located on the left bank of the Ain River , at the southern end of the Gorges de l'Ain gorge . The Ruisseau de Sous-Bief brook flows into the river at the municipal capital .

Transport links

In the north-western municipality there is a narrow bend in the river, over which a railway line runs - largely underground - and spans the Ain with the Viaduc de Cize-Bolozon . This railway line was modernized from 2005 to 2010 for TGV traffic from Paris to Geneva . To the east of the viaduct is the Cize-Bolozon train station , where TER trains stop. The station consists of two tracks on a central platform so that trains can cross each other.
