Outriaz is a French municipality with 260 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Hauteville-Lompnes and the Arrondissement of Nantua .

geography

Outriaz is located at 710  m , about 19 kilometers northeast of the city of Ambérieu-en-Bugey and 29 km east-southeast of the prefecture of Bourg-en-Bresse (beeline). The farming village extends in central Bugey , on an elevated plateau on the eastern edge of the wide valley of the Combe du Val in the Jura , at the foot of the Grande Montagne .

The area of ​​the municipality of 5.91 km² covers a section of the southern French Jura. The western part is occupied by the approximately two kilometers wide, north-south oriented depression of the Combe du Val (at an average of 660  m ), which forms a syncline in the Jura folds . This trough is drained by the Borrey to the north to the Oignin . At Outriaz it receives a flow from the east through the Flon . From the valley floor, the community area stretches eastward over the Outriaz plateau and the subsequent gently rising slope to the wooded ridge of the Grande Montagne , on which the highest point of Outriaz is reached at 1103  m . With a narrow tip, the community soil extends to the southeast and also includes the catchment area of ​​the Flon.

Neighboring municipalities of Outriaz are Vieu-d'Izenave in the north, Champdor-Corcelles with Corcelles in the east and Lantenay in the south.

history

Outriaz belonged to the von Lantenay family in the 14th century, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Savoy . With the Treaty of Lyon , the village came to France in 1601. In 1873 Outriaz was separated from Lantenay and raised to the status of an independent municipality.

With 260 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Outriaz is one of the small communities in the Ain department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century, the population has increased again since the mid-1970s. The locals of Outriaz are called Triolin (e) s in French .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Outriaz was a village dominated by agriculture , in particular dairy farming and cattle breeding. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village.

The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Vieu-d'Izenave. Further road connections exist with Corcelles and Lantenay. The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around ten kilometers away.
