The Treaty of Lyon was an agreement between Charles Emanuel , Duke of Savoy and the French King Henry IV.

Franco-Savoyard conflict

On January 17, 1601 , the Treaty of Lyon ended the conflict between France and Savoy . The central point of this conflict was above all the Margraviate of Saluzzo , an enclave within Savoy that had been French since 1529 and that Karl Emanuel had tried to annex in 1588 .

By signing the contract, France renounced Saluzzo and received Valromey , Bugey , Bresse and the Pays de Gex in return .

Consequences for Geneva

The Treaty of Lyon gave Geneva a common border with France for the first time.
