View of Lantenay

The area of the 6.59 km² large municipality covers a section of the southern French Jura. The central part is taken up by the approximately 1 km wide valley of the Combe du Val, oriented in north-south direction (on average at 670  m ), which forms a syncline in the Jura . This trough is drained by the Borrey to the north to the Oignin . In the west, this depression is limited by the steeply rising slope of the Chaîne de l'Avocat (up to 980  m ). To the east, the community area extends over the Lantenay plateau to the adjacent anticline of the Crêt des Éculaz , on which the highest elevation of Lantenay is reached at 1012  m . The western slope of this mountain range is divided by two short side valleys of the Borrey.

Lantenay includes the hamlet of Le Tremblay ( 672  m ) in the valley of the Combe du Val and some individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Lantenay are Vieu-d'Izenave and Outriaz in the north, Champdor-Corcelles with Corcelles in the east and Izenave in the south.

history

Parish church

The parish of Lantenay with the small priory, both of which were first mentioned in the 13th century, were dependent on Ambronay . In the 14th century, the lords of Lantenay and Molard belonged to the de Rougemont family (near Aranc ), who were ruled by the Counts of Savoy . With the Treaty of Lyon , Lantenay came to France in 1601. There was a change of area in 1873 when Outriaz was separated from Lantenay and made an independent municipality.

Attractions

The parish church de l'Assomption (Eng .: Church of the Assumption) was rebuilt in 1832.

The local residents of Lantenay are called Béguelin (e) s in French .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Lantenay was a village dominated by agriculture , especially dairy farming and cattle breeding. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village.

The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Vieu-d'Izenave. Further road connections exist with Izenave and Outriaz. The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around eleven kilometers away.
