Surjoux-Lhopital is a French municipality with 131 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nantua and the canton of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine .

It was created with effect from January 1, 2019 as Commune nouvelle through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities Lhôpital and Surjoux , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative seat is in Lhôpital.

location

The municipality is located around 30 kilometers northwest of Annecy on the right bank of the Rhône and thus on the border with the neighboring department of Haute-Savoie . Neighboring municipalities are: Injoux-Génissiat in the north, Franclens in the northeast, Challonges in the east, Chanay in the south and Songieu and Hotonnes in the west.
